surrounded by cardinal red and a smattering of royal blue i somehow fell in love with the pinstripes...the rich yankee history of ruth, gehrig, dimaggio, mantle, etc...the myriad of world championships...it all culminated with me falling in love...so love drunk that i really thought myself in pinstripes was a realistic option even though God saw fit to give me lacking physical prowess...

don mattingly (a.k.a. donnie baseball) was my first love...by the age of 10 i had collected 250 different mattingly baseball cards...they were housed in my 10x8 pinstriped temple...clocks, banners, jerseys, etc...

growing up, the yankees won no championships...born in 1977, the yankees won the WS in 1978, and not again until 1996...and though i enjoyed their championship success in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 & lastly in 2009, it was not nearly as exciting as it would have been during those young years...my obsession and passion had weaned into a more casual fandom...

the last 5 yankee championships have had much to do with the captain...number 2...shortstop...derek jeter...just this week he reached the milestone of 3,000 hits...a milestone only 27 other major league players have reached...



he is a great yankee...to be named with the formers mentioned at the beginning...but he is NO MATTINGLY...
