compiling and comparing world hunger statistics i was astonished...1 person (mostly children) dies from hunger every 3-5 seconds...there are 86,400 seconds in a day...so, being conservative, every day (according to world statistics) 17,280 people die of hunger...that seems high to me...that very well could be due to my ignorance and naivety...so for the sake of my conscience, lets say every 15 seconds someone dies of hunger...that would mean that 5,760 people die per day from hunger...
so if that number is even close to being correct, that means in one day almost twice as many people die from hunger as died in the 9/11 attacks...
i understand why we make a "big deal" of the 9/11 attacks...and i am neutral to the fact we do so...
this is not a moral of the story post...i simply find it amazing that we will for the most part ignore thousands of deaths a day caused by hunger, while we "remember", "morn" etc the deaths of 2,977 people...
perhaps as christians we believe that those young souls that die due to hunger by God's grace go to heaven...if that is the reasoning, i don't know why we get so worked up over abortion, those children go to heaven also...i guess sins of aggression are more noticeable and disgusting than sins of passivity...
it is a weird world...on 9/11, many obese americans will sit down for 2-3 HUGE meals and will be subjected to news and stories about the 10 year anniversary about 9/11 and not even think about the thousands of deaths that day caused by world hunger...
by the way, to make sure i do not come across as more pretentious than most think i already am, i will tell you i deleted that picture from my desktop so i don't have to see it again...
