i will confess...i find learning about the world of the old testament very boring...babylonians, assyrians etc...however, the world of the new testament i find fascinating...i wouldnt say that it helps me understand christianity any better...because christianity is Christ...but learning about the world in which "christianity" was birthed sure makes many passages jump of the page with clarity and adds much context into what Christ or Paul dealt with etc...there are many good works out there on the subject...this is one that i had never seen before this week...i perhaps had seen it referenced...anyway...it was great...or i should say is...4/5ths of the way through...if you ever want to dive into the subject, let me know...i know of a good resource center...
