come fall

i spent 3 days in des moines last week...i am sure that like here...the weather was fabulous...and that is not a time killer reference like weather comments so many times are...i truly had great days just because of the weather...the booksales were great...the flea markets and thrift stores produced an abundance of treasure...for instance...in an antique store i found a paul laurence dunbar first edition...if you are not familiar with dunbar...http://www.dunbarsite.org/...

now there is a weird dynamic to the booksales in des moines...here is a little boring history...the planned parenthood booksale in des moines has always been the biggest and best sale in the midwest...i have done especially well over the past 8 years...it used to be once a year, about 1,000,000 books...however the sale grew so large that they now have it twice a year...spring-fall...anyway...now there is an organization, iowa right to life, that also has a booksale two days before to compete with planned parenthoods and to raise funds for their organization...

planned parenthood supports abortion...so i have had many discussions with those whom i will refer to in this blog as nazi-christians...these discussions were mostly them telling me that i should not support planned parenthood because they support abortion...many years there are even picketers present before the booksale begins...if you have ever picketed i will not consider you a nazi-christian though you are dangerously close by my definition...

i told myself i would not ever enter into one of these discussions because 99% of the time they are worthless...but, some loud mouthed lady at the iowa right to life sale was talking about the planned parenthood sale and how people shouldn't support abortion...please understand, this lady is in line with mostly dealers who for the most part are just there for books and could care less if satan was selling the books...i think it was the combination of her opinion and her loud mouth that drove me crazy...so as she went on and on i finally interrupted and asked her if she was a "christian"...and she replied "yes"...so then i asked her if she "believed the Bible"...to which she again said "yes"...so i asked her if she, like abortion, believed that homosexuality was wrong...she didnt miss a beat and said "yes"...empatically i might add...so then i said, "i tell you what, if any of your clothes are not made by homosexual designers, then please keep on speaking...but if you have supported homosexual designers by buying their clothes...then by all means realize your hypocrisy and please be quiet!"...she did not say another word...and it became awkwardly quiet for about 20 seconds...i am not joking...about two minutes later i heard her say to a lady that was standing beside her, "i bought some of these at thrift stores so it is not like i gave them alot of money"....

often perception is reality...it is sad that these type of people are who many non-believers associate with being christians...just think if all the hours of picketing would have been spent in prayer...anyway...what is sad is that there were a few of these nazi-christians that ran the iowa right to life sale...comments and attitudes and negative references to the "other booksale" had to be an effective tool of witnessing...and what is more sad is that at the planned parenthood sale all the workers and volunteers are friendly and nice...

by the way...if any of you ladies have any extra time during the week...i know first hand that the pregnancy care center by st. johns does an awesome job...you can talk to girls who just found out that they are pregnant and you have NO restrictions as far as your faith and using the Bible...if you feel like you have no outlets for meeting people...that would be an awesome opportunity!...

later from 3rd St.
