going places

we had some friends over last night...most of you don't know them so i will skip all of that...here is the deal...they went to spain for a year to teach english...their job requires about 20 hours a week...so the rest of the time they travel...this past year, if you can see it on a map in europe...they went there and have the pics to show...

VERY rarely am i jealous of anyone...i dont want a bigger house...a nice car...etc...but i was truly jealous last night...not for what i want now...but what i wish we would have done...i know that this adventure wouldnt be great for everyone, for some people just want to get married and have kids...a globe is sufficient for them...but i wish mrs rider and i would have traveled for a couple of years...i truly do...we both had the desire...and both could have lived out of backpacks for half the week...

anyway...for those of you without kids...dont believe the "american dream" stuff that is so prevalent...having kids and a mortgage is great...but perhaps just a little bit later...i believe that i have allowed God to direct me...but i know that He also allows us to make choices and am pretty sure he would have allowed us to do so if we would have just done it...
