not too long ago i commented on the new "contemporary" service at 2nd baptist...i mentioned that it was a great service...culturally relevant...good teaching...good music...etc...
now by no means do i equate the service only with church...it is part of what the church does and has specific purposes...such as edification of the body thru the teaching of God's Word...etc...
anyway...also kcbt has also started a contemporary service...similar to the one 2nd started...there are a few differences...2nd actually hired a new pastor for the new service...and this service now has about the same attendance as the first two services combined...hmn...guess there was a need...or perhaps just a want...depends on how you view it...anyway...
in both cases, a middle-aged/older pastor recognized a need/want and put the wheels in motion...and these pastors have even turned over much of the responsiblity to younger men that have the ability to operate and communicate to younger generations more effectivly...i think that we could all agree that is difficult for a pastor to do...kudos to marshall & adams...
one thing i will point out...in both cases these churches had enough attendence that more than one service was necessary...hence two services was not a forced division, but more natural...as was the case at seminole a few years back...except the "old" service was SOOOO old that even the "contemporary" service still feels like 1981...anyway...
this is not a loaded blog...just some observations...every church is different and i might have 5% of the answers to these issues...anyway...in a day in time when many boats are taking on water and have no GPS...it is nice to see two boats cruising in open waters with a mission...
